The Annual Election Period runs from October 15th through December 7th each year. During this time, beneficiaries may change Medicare Advantage plans, Prescription Drug plans, return to Original Medicare, or enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan for the first time. Enrollment changes during the Annual Election Period take effect on January 1st.
Plans and benefits can change each year and so can your needs. If you are currently on Medicare, we will be happy to review your current plan during the Annual Enrollment Period and compare them to other plan options.
Even if you are on an employer plan, when you turn 65, you may want to compare your employer plan with a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage plan! Most of the time, you save on first dollars out-of-pocket, since there usually isn’t a deductible to meet.

Frequently Asked Questions
What Is Medicare?
Medicare is health insurance for people 65 or older. You may be eligible to get Medicare earlier if you have a disability, End-Stage Renal Disease (ESRD), or ALS (also called Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Some people get Medicare automatically; others have to actively sign up – it depends if you start getting retirement or disability benefits from Social Security before you turn 65.
How Does Medicare Work?
Medicare works by providing health insurance through different parts that cover specific needs.
Part A helps pay for hospital care, skilled nursing, and some home health services, while Part B covers doctor visits, outpatient care, and preventive services. You can also choose Part C (Medicare Advantage), which bundles Parts A and B, and often prescription drug coverage, into one plan offered by private insurers. Part D adds prescription drug coverage. Depending on your situation, you may pay premiums, deductibles, and copayments, but Medicare helps lower the overall cost of healthcare as you age or manage qualifying conditions.
What Are The Parts Of Medicare?
Part A – Hospital Insurance Helps cover:
- Inpatient care in hospitals
- Skilled nursing facility care
- Hospice care
- Home health care
Part B – Medical Insurance Helps cover:

- Outpatient care
- Home health care
- Durable medical equipment (like wheelchairs, walkers, hospital beds, and other equipment)
- Many preventive services (like screenings, shots or vaccines, and yearly “Wellness” visits)
Part C – Medicare Advantage
- Medicare Part C, also called Medicare Advantage, is an alternative to Original Medicare.
- These plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare.
- They combine Part A (hospital insurance) and Part B (medical insurance) into one plan.
- Many Medicare Advantage plans also include Part D prescription drug coverage.
- Plans may offer extra benefits such as dental, vision, hearing, or wellness programs.
Costs (premiums, copays, and deductibles) can vary by plan, but there’s an annual limit on out-of-pocket costs
Part D – Drug Coverage Helps cover:
- Medicare Part D helps cover the cost of prescription drugs.
- Plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare.
- Coverage includes both brand-name and generic medications.
- Each plan has a formulary (a list of covered drugs), which may differ by plan.
- Costs can include monthly premiums, deductibles, and copayments.
- Part D is designed to make prescription medications more affordable and accessible.
